Growing up school/education was about getting out of my community and finding an opportunity to change your situation or circumstances. As a teacher, I wanted my students to have access, opportunities, and a positive example in the classroom to whom they could identify and relate. Unfortunately, I felt that as a teacher I wasn’t able to provide my students with the support that they needed outside the classroom that would ultimately help their overall improvement inside the classroom. I then realized that I needed to make a change that would not only help my students in the classroom but also help and nurture the entire student. I was once told by a great philosopher, educator, and mentor that in order to reach a child's brain (educate them) we must first reach them through their heart(well-being). That statement took root in my soul and it became a purpose for my life to reach their heart(well-being) and well as their brain(educate them).

At Purpose Leadership Academy it is our mission to Educate, Elevate, and Inspire students to reach their full potential as defined by them. We do this through a holistic approach that is rooted in our six core competencies of Leadership, Identity, Integrity, Scholarship, Humanity, and Service.

Purpose Leadership Academy is a proposed, tuition-free public charter school that offers a stable, supportive environment with extended learning and a wide range of resources to holistically support students.

The mission of Purpose Leadership Academy (PLA) is to elevate, educate, and inspire African American and Hispanic male student leaders in grades K-8 to define and reach their full potential through project-based learning, restorative pride circles, and socio-emotional learning by excelling in scholastic achievement and embracing Leadership, Identity, Integrity, Scholarship, Humanity, and Service.

PLA envisions a 4 or 5-star school where African American and Hispanic male students thrive academically and personally, becoming critically conscious change-makers who lead with service as a guiding purpose. We are committed to fostering restorative spaces for meaningful discussions on identity and community, empowering individuals to embrace their identities and connect self-awareness with academic success. Our academy serves as a community anchor, promoting healthy relationships, civic engagement, and culturally relevant learning. Through data-driven practices and safe, inclusive environments, we aim to disrupt cycles of poverty, inspire innovation, and build bridges for lasting, generational change.
